Aquarium of Livorno
The one of Livorno is the most important aquarium in Tuscany. In its tanks there are over 2,000 animals of over 300 different species. Its main purpose is to raise public awareness of the need to preserve and manage marine environments in a sustainable way. In the tanks are indeed hosted many species at risk of extinction or whose marine habitat is heavily threatened by human activity.
The Aquarium of Livorno is set in scenic position on the seafront promenade of the city, Terrazza Mascagni, just 3 km from the Hotel Città. It can be easily reached by car, public transport and even by foot with a pleasant stroll in the old town.
Much of the species housed in the aquarium are typical of the Mediterranean Sea and in particular of the Tuscan coast, but there are also fishes from the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. All marine fish and mammals are housed in a space that faithfully reproduces their natural habitat. Among the protagonists of the Aquarium of Livorno we find the black finfish shark, the zebra shark, the clownfish, the napoleon fish and the green turtles. There are also several seahorses, corals and starfish.
At the end of the tour you can access the panoramic terrace and admire the promenade.
