The birthplace of Amedeo Modigliani in Livorno

Amedeo Modigliani, famous Italian painter and sculptor, was born in Livorno in the late 1800s by a family of the Jewish community.

The house in which he was born is located in via Roma number 38.

Entering the first floor you enter his world, the epoch furniture and his works hanging on the walls make you go back in the years when Modigliani grew up. This is home to the Amedeo Modigliani’s Casa Natale Association, run by the Guastalla family, who collected photographic and didactic documentation on the artist’s life and work.

Here he finds his story, starting from the years in Livorno, his mother in this house has organized a private school of general culture and languages frequented by many young people from Livorno.

The original furniture has been repositioned in the apartment and exhibitions of works by Amedeo Modigliani or his friends, such as Chagall, Picasso, Jacob and Braque, are held.

Conferences, events and presentations on the work and life of Modigliani and on the avant-gardes of the early twentieth century are organized; studies on him are encouraged and there are many students or young scholars studying his life here. The Association favors these studies through scholarships, so the association carries on research on its works. This, in fact, was the desire of her daughter just before she died in 1984: the birthplace of Modigliani transformed into a Study Center for the study and divulgation of her father’s art.
